edge - the part of something that is furthest from its centre.
Example: The railway station was built on the edge of town.
suburb - an area or town near a large city but away from its centre, where there are many houses, especially for middle-class people.
estate - an area where there are many houses, usually built at the same time by the same company. Many estates are owned by local government and have cheap houses for poorer families (british).
outskirts - the areas of a town or city that are furthest away from the centre.
on the outskirts of: a park on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
lane - one of the parts that a wide road or motorway is divided into, marked by painted lines and intended for one line of traffic.
lane - a narrow road, especially in the countryside (british).
